Known as the fairytale country, the home of Hans Christian Anderson has over 4 million visitors a year, showing just how big tourism in Denmark is.
Denmark has over 4 million visitors each year which ranks it in the top 50 of the world tourism rankings chart. Most of his visitors actually come from its neighboring countries that all want to visit this beautiful country for different reasons. Tourism in Denmark has grown because of the massive variety in arts, music, culture and activities that it has to offer.
A majority of the countries visitors come from across the boarder in Germany and they are brought here with their love of sandy beaches. Tourists from Norway tend to stick to the hustle and bustle of Copenhagen whilst a majority of the younger Scandinavians come here because of the countries reputation for cheap wines, beers and spirits.
Being the home of fairytale writer Hans Christian Anderson has helped boost tourism in Denmark with many people come to visit the country to get a glimpse of where he lived and the inspiration behind his most famous writings. In fact the most popular tourist attraction is The little Mermaid Statue, which was inspired by Anderson’s book of the same name.
Other famous tourist attractions in Copenhagen include The Tivoli Gardens and The Freetown Christiannia.
There are plenty of other choices for things to do in Denmark and the great thing about this country is that everything is only a few hours drive so there are no limits to what you can see or do. Legoland near to Billund Airport is very popular as are the seascapes of Skagen in the north of Denmark.
Also near Esbjerg stands the massive Svend Wiig Hansen sculpture of four chalky white figures gazing out at the sea. Named the Mennesket ved havet (Men At Sea) this stands at nearly 80 m high and can be seen for miles.
Tourism in Denmark is growing and this is shown by the wide variety of entertainment and culture that the country has to offer.
